The St Mary’s Elevator and Ramp addition is a complex design arrangement attempting to accommodate three levels with accessibility. In addition, the location for the new elevator will share space with three different styles of building. The design solution is to stitch together all three levels with an elevator to connect the courtyard level with the chapel floor elevation, and a 34 foot accessible ramp connecting an intermediate level with the chapel floor elevation. The 34 foot Ramp wraps two large 30 inch diameter Gothic style column bases using the unfinished west side nave aisle intended for egress. The ramp extends beyond any existing enclosure and thus requires protection.
