Ian Smith Design Group LLC is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Architect/Designer II with 5-10 years of experience to join our Philadelphia office. You are responsible for high-level project specific solutions for design, program, and technical requirements for projects with an interest in renovation, restoration, and adaptive reuse working in tandem with and independent of the principal. You have a strong work ethic and experience working on complex projects from initial programming through design, and construction administration. You possess an appropriate level of computer proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS MAX, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, excellent written and verbal skills, and developed strategic planning and organizational skills.

Your Contribution

  • Provide supervision, coaching, and technical support for team members, while maintaining a sense of urgency and prioritization of tasks
  • Collaborate with and assist team members in the preparation of design documents and presentation materials
  • Direct project coordination meetings for projects as required
  • Attend and participate in design presentations, design reviews, and community meetings (as needed)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a team player mentality and a mentorship mindset
  • Weekly staff meetings and informal check-ins as needed

Your Contribution, during Schematic Design and Design Development

  • Work with the principal in creating buildings which serve the client’s needs and responds to their desired image, space, and aesthetic
  • Work with team members in developing the building design by testing it in relation to program, budget, code compliancy, and any other issues that emerge in the schematic or development phases

Your Contribution, during Construction Documents

  • Execute and enhance the design intent while preparing the construction documents in order to manage and deliver the complete documentation needed for the construction team
  • Work with the principal in articulating design principles that help govern the detailing phase of the project
  • Work with our internal and external team members in order to ensure a consistent development of the project towards the design concepts established in earlier phases
  • Develop project specifications and other technical requirements of projects

 Your Contribution, during Construction Administration

  • Participate in submittal responses, shop drawing reviews, and construction site visits
  • Prepare site visit reports
  • Work with the technical team in preparing construction phase design directives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Architecture (minimum) from accredited program
  • Registered Architect in at least one state with suitable credentials for registration in other states
  • 5-10 years of experience, with an interest in renovation, restoration, and adaptive reuse
  • Prior experience as an architect for components of projects with a demonstrated technical and organizational proficiency
  • Proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS MAX, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated building design, graphic design, and conceptualization skills for both
  • Experience with hand drawing and sketching
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, developed strategic planning, and organizational skills

Our projects are varied in scope, budgets, and timelines, all which can change quickly. Candidates need to exhibit exceptional design, technical knowledge, and concise communication/documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Masters of Architecture (minimum) from accredited program
  • Registered Architect in at least one state with suitable credentials for registration in other states
  • 8-10 years of experience, with an interest in renovation, restoration, and adaptive reuse
  • Prior experience as an architect for components of projects with a demonstrated technical and organizational proficiency
  • Proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS MAX, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Minimum of (10) Projects that one has worked on from start to finish
  • Longer work-hours will be required periodically to accomplish task assignments within a billing cycle.
  • Travel within a 10-20 mile radius will be required
  • Experience with hand drawing and sketching
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, developed strategic planning, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated Expertise in a supplemental skill set outside of normal acquisition types
    • LEED AP (BD+C) having managed a min. of (5) Projects
    • CSI CCS having written Specifications for a minimum of (5) projects.
    • PHIUS (CPHC) Certified Passive House Consultant
    • Autodesk Certification Credential having managed a min. of (5) Projects
    • NCIDQ Credential Having managed a min. of (5) projects
